Last 4 and 5 June the leaders of the major Western powers (United States, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada) and Japan met in Brussels for the G7 summit. It was the very first time that this event was held in the Belgian capital.

During the Europe/United States summit held in Brussels last March, the person called the most powerful man in the world, Barack Obama, came accompanied by a substantial delegation of 900 people, involving very impressive security measures.

Last 31 March, the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, arrived in Belgium for a three day state visit. Brussels was the last stage of his European tour. A major event, it was the very first official visit by a Chinese head of state to the EU. The organisation thus had to be perfect.
